A Letter from Our Producing Artistic Director
Dry with a Twist
Theatrics
Kevin P. Joyce,
Producing Artistic Director
Dear Friend and Supporter of the Arts,
It
is my hope that this letter finds you well and enjoying a healthy and peaceful
summer.
I
am writing to you to alert you to a wonderful new company I am currently
working with. Dry with a Twist Theatrics is an exciting new collective of
emerging artists, whose motto is “Freshly Familiar”. Dry with a Twist seeks to
bring to life, in new and exciting ways, our old favorites and dust off some of
the forgotten or underperformed works by many of our favorite voices. Having
successfully launched their first production, a new adaptation of L’illusion Comique by Pierre Corneille,
last October, Dry with a Twist is seeking to continue their mission by
launching a new production, in association with Kimille Howard, called Wilde Tales, it is an evening of three
fairy tales by Oscar Wilde (who knew he wrote fairy tales?). The piece is fresh
and exciting, it employs different mediums of storytelling, including puppetry,
music and language, and the play will receive its first production at this
year’s Dream Up Festival at Theater for the New City in Downtown Manhattan.
While
all of this is extremely exciting, and will give all of the artists associated
incredible experience and exposure to the world of independent New York
Theater, we need your help. As you can well imagine, the cost of independently
producing new work in New York City is extremely high. I am reaching out to you
to ask you to dig deep into your heart and pockets to contribute to the
fundraising efforts of Dry with a Twist. The budget necessary to successfully
and fully realize the work is, comparatively, small and with your generous help
we will reach our goal in no time and be on our way to creating exciting new
works from old friends.
Dry with a Twist is seeking to raise a total of $3,450.28 which will cover the cost of production, festival fees,
printing, administrative fees and supplies and other costs of mounting the production in the festival. Every contribution counts.
Whether your generous donation is $5 or $500, every drop of water helps fill the bucket. In addition, there are some fun and
exciting perks available for your kind contribution. Dry with a Twist is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts
service organization. Contributions for the purposes of Dry with a Twist must be made payable to Fractured Atlas. The value
of these gifts is listed in each perk. Any contribution above the amounts listed is tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
We
understand that not everyone can contribute to our efforts monetarily; there
are other ways in which you can get involved though! Attached we also have a
list of physical items that Dry with a Twist needs in their upstart and
production of Wilde Tales. Perhaps
you have some of the items lying around in your attic or cellar collecting
dust, as they say “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and could be
vital to the furthering of the production and collective as a whole.
Another
easy, and free, way to help us out is if you simply pass along the news of our
efforts. If you happen to know someone interested in helping out the arts, let
them know about our campaign, tell your friends about the collective, the
performance, like the show on Facebook (www.facebook.com/wildetales), follow our blog (wildetale.blogspot.com) or follow us on Twitter. Your support is the
greatest donation we can receive to further a collective of emerging artists,
some penniless, all passionate, who just want to continue the greatest human
tradition-live theatre.
Thank you so much for your reading this letter, I
hope to hear from you soon and that you always remain well!
Sincerely,
Kevin P. Joyce
