What Audiences are Saying about "Wilde Tales"!

"The cast is charming...With very little production value needed- a clever script and engaging actors entice you for a fulfilling hour...Wilde like you've never seen him before!"-Grant Kretchik

"WILDE TALES is an absolute delight.  It was intriguing seeing these fairy tales penned by Oscar Wilde brought to life on the stage by a multi-talented cast of six actors.  Filled with artful use of puppets, props, and fabrics to paint motif, this production is great for all ages - children and grown-ups alike.  I recommend it!"

Finding Oscar

Thoughts from Deanna Frederick

After a week and a half of rehearsals (and with opening night a mere 4 nights away), Oscar Wilde is finally starting to click. I, along with 5 other incredibly talented actors, have worked hard to find Wilde's true views and passions and have tried to delve deep into the depths to discover what made (and through his work, still makes) Oscar Wilde tick.   Believe me, it wasn't easy, but we are definitely getting there.

In our minds we connected one way, and through our hearts, something else had clicked. But for me, it was the soul that had the most to say about his Wilde ways. So what if it sounds cheesy, truth is truth
;)

Rehearsals have been a rollercoaster ride, but in all the best ways. We got on the fastest running, highest dropping, most loops, dips, and curve having thrill ride, all of us screaming the whole way through. But every night when rehearsal ends, we go through the next day waiting in line, to get back into the space to scream our heads off even more.

For me, this has been nothing  but a great opportunity. I'm playing roles that I would normally not play, and that, quite frankly terrify me. I have to figure out how to bring a puppet to life for crying out loud!!  But those other 5 incredible actors that I mentioned earlier, along with our director and PSM, and everyone else involved, have been extremely supportive and helpful. I'm not gonna lie, together we make a pretty awesome team.

So a shout out to my family, ironing out Oscar's "Wilde Tales" with me, as we look for the beauty, the comedy, the sorrow, the pain, and of course Oscar. We couldn't have made it this far without each other.

"4 more rehearsals until opening night is ALL you have left?" Some people may say. Well we say, "4 more rehearsals? BRING IT!!" The mermaid says you will leave the theater saying, "I should have worn my seat belt!"

A Discussion with our Director

Recently, our director, Kevin P. Joyce (more familiarly known as "KPJ") gave an exclusive interview about the project. The full article can be found here: http://dreamup2013.wordpress.com/

"Everyone has heard of Oscar Wilde. After all, the famed Irish playwright and novelist is probably the most-studied literary figure in the English language after Shakespeare. But did you know that in addition to his sharply witty works based in Victorian society, Mr. Wilde also wrote fairy tales? These relatively unknown works form the basis for playwright and director Kevin P. Joyce’s new work in adaptation, “Wilde Tales,” to be presented for the first time by Theater for the New City as part of its 2013 Dream Up Festival." Continue Reading
